Nanny Etiquette in Bali - Tips for Parents
How to work well with your Bali nanny. Cultural tips, tipping, communication, and building a great relationship.
A little cultural awareness goes a long way in making your nanny experience great for everyone.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. Rp 50,000-100,000 is generous for a full day. For multi-day bookings, a tip at the end is common.
Communication
Be clear about expectations. Write down routines. Use simple English if the nanny is not fully fluent. Google Translate helps for complex topics.
Cultural Sensitivity
Many Balinese nannies are Hindu and may need time for ceremony days. Respect their prayer times. Offer food and water during long shifts.
Building Trust
Start with a short booking. Introduce the nanny to your child with you present. Gradually increase independence as trust builds.
